Fountain Pen Wish List: Pelikan M800 - Blue.
I haven’t researched all the nib sizes yet, but if they don’t have an italic, I’ll let it pass, since the pen has a piston filling mechanism of AWESOMENESS.
The Pelikan Souverän series (the M800 is in it, as are the M300, M400, M600, and M1000, with the M1000 being the biggest and M300 the smallest) is fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. I have a M600 with a cursive italic nib ground by John Mottishaw, and I absolutely love that pen. Love. Deciding between the different pens in the series is a matter of taste, really—just whichever size fits your hand best. The pens are all roughly the same. The piston mechanism is smooooooth and Pelikan actually makes interchangeable nibs, which I think is pretty great. If I recall correctly, Pelikan makes a stock broad italic nib, or of course you could get one custom ground for you, which is what I did. Mine’s a .55mm cursive italic ground from a M nib.
I had a Pelikan on my wishlist for over a decade, I think, and you know what—totally worth it. It’s a fabulous pen. Every Pelikan I’ve tried has been a good pen, actually—I’m a big fan.
